Philosophy

Examine. Explore. Experience

This is the basic philosophy behind all of my work:

First, examining the work helps determine the necessary objectives of the work and/ or character. This is the analysis phase where I set up a basic plan of attack for the work that is to come. I do this by examining the script and picking it to pieces. It is in this phase where I create strategies for conquering the obstacles of developing characters and/ or patterns with the script. Every script is like sheet music. It has a certain rhythm, tempo, and flow to it. I, as an actor, have to figure out these elements and prepare my instruments to perform the piece. It is in this phase where I also research all things in the script: period pieces, references, and jargon.

Second, exploring the character and/ or work comes afterward. Now that I have established a ground plan for the upcoming work, it is the time for the work to begin. I explore the variations of actions, motives, and artistry. This is a collaborative effort between directors and actors alike, creating a harmonious polished product.

Third, now is the time to experience. It is show time. This is where all the hard work and effort pull through. The only thing to do now is to utilize everything done up to the performance and present this work on the stage. After everything is said and done, I take everything I learned from the process of the current production I am working on and apply it to future endeavors.
